I get asked often why I became a dentist. And that is a funny story because, and this is the truth, I was 14 years old when I decided I wanted to be a dentist. And part of it was because I had a dentist that I loved genuinely, and his dental hygienist was my hygienist since I was a child. And I was very close to her. And so sometimes at our six-month cleaning visits we'd have little chats, and over the years, I just decided I wanted to do what she did. And she encouraged me to go all the way through dental school and become a dentist.
When patients visit my office, the most important thing that I want them to feel is trust, hands down. I want them to know that they are in a safe place and that they are going to be cared for as if they're family because, to be honest with you, they become family.
I would say my favorite part about treating patients is the transformation that I see. It's most rewarding when I have a patient who's terrified of the dentist and they literally sometimes will sit in the chair at the beginning and cry. And it's terrifying for them to even be here. And then, to watch them transform from that to the patient who walks in the front door and waves hi to the front team, and who walks themselves back to the operatory and has a seat, and then I come in and we chit chat about things and they're just a completely different person. And that's when I know they're at home, and that's what I love the most.
